A native of Uhrichsville, OH, Armstrong was a 4-year starter for the Mustangs and state placer at the Ohio High School Championships in 1995. On completion of graduation, Ryan joined the U.S. Army, and in 1997 joined the U.S Army World Class Athlete Program (WCAP) and retired in 2019. Over the past 20 years, Ryan has been an Assistant Wrestling coach in Ohio, Texas, Maryland, Oregon, and most recently was the wrestling coach for Northwood High School (Pittsboro). Ryan has a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership/Human Resource Development and a bachelor’s degree in Fire Science. Ryan is currently a first-grade teacher at Chatham Grove Elementary. He and his wife, Amy, have two children, Kyler and Layne.
