Seaforth Cross Country Has Impressive Team Performance in Its First Meet in School History

In the first cross country meet in the history of Seaforth High School, the women’s and men’s teams came away with some remarkable performances. Racing 5 km on Northwood’s notoriously difficult and hilly course, in 92-degree heat, the women and the men both got wins against conference rivals Chatham Central and Jordan-Matthews. (Overall, both teams finished 2nd to 3A powerhouse Northwood.) The women were led by Caroline Bartee’s 6th place performance, backed up by scoring performances from Claire Morgan, Zuzanna Mikolajec, Lily Cox, and Juana Jimenez. The men’s team notched wins thanks to the overall victory by Jack Anstrom, followed closely by scoring teammates Ethan Becker, Harry Mendlovitz, Will Cuicchi, and Evan Hepburn. After the first week of competition statewide, the women finished the week ranked 11th in the state in 2A, and the boys were ranked 8th. Anstrom’s blistering 17:38 on the Northwood course was good enough to be ranked 5th among all runners in NC 2A, and 4th fastest freshman in North Carolina, all classifications. The Seaforth XC teams next travel to Kernersville September 10 to compete in the big Friday Night Lights XC Festival.
